Deep dive into Climate Transition, Agritech, Artificial Intelligence and their huge impact on shaping our lives today and tomorrow.

We are seeking 20 participants, aged between 18 and 24, who are enthusiastic about climate change and excited to immerse themselves in an inspiring week at one of Europe’s most innovative hubs: the H-FARM Campus.

AgriTech, Climate Transition and Sustainability:
How the application of technology and digital tools to farming is key.

The third edition of the MAGICA Summer School will kick off with a keynote address on AgriTech by a seasoned expert in the field.

Following that, the 20 chosen participants will delve into how agriculture is influenced by climate change and explore how technologies like Artificial Intelligence can play a constructive role in its global development.

With a focus on fostering an entrepreneurial mindset, participants will engage in hands-on activities, including sessions in a Hydroponic Lab, where they’ll apply design thinking and innovative approaches.

Horizon Europe is offering 20 full Scholarships. Application will be evaluated on a rolling basis.

Candidates who will be selected for a scholarship which covers the participation in the program, the Acceleration Lab the Hydroponic Lab, meals, and accommodation in H-FARM Campus during the days of the Summer School, will be notified.

The winners of the MAGICA Summer School scholarship should provide for their travel in order to reach H-FARM Campus.

Starting from Tuesday participants will be guided through the process of transforming an idea into a pitch deck, and, on the last day, they will have the chance to pitch it to a jury of investors and startup founders.

Every participant is required to arrive on the first day with a list of 3 real problems that address the issue of climate change, and 3 innovative solutions to these.

After a selection of the most innovative ideas, participants will be divided into groups and will work as small startup teams.

Apply Design and Innovation Thinking

This session is based on an experiential format: from measuring our impact on the Planet, to the importance of resources as well as how we use them, to reducing consumption to more easily achieve NET ZERO goals, these are concepts and issues we learn by doing. Each session includes an in-depth space where participants can engage with each other in finding solutions applicable to their own operational realities.


How does this workshop work?

Divided into Teams, participants will have to answer Quizzes on some of the major effects of climate change.
Then they
will be provided with various materials and with inventiveness and creativity they will have to complete a small hydroponics plant.
This will be a concrete implementation of a solution, where everyone will be able to bring skill, creativity and talent in making their own kit.

At the end of the workshop, each team will be asked to choose the hydroponics based on the criteria of design and innovation. An external jury will also vote the best Slogan.

The sum of the scores given by the results of the quiz, the other teams’ vote and the jury’s vote on the best slogan, will determine the most “Tinkering” and Creative team.

Raising awareness on the issue of Climate Change

Climate change is reshaping the environment in which we live, the economy, communities and, not least, our health. This is the new challenge that puts the individual and the Community at the centre: in particular and increasingly at all latitudes of the planet, we are witnessing disastrous climatic phenomena that are leading us to become more aware of how much some resources have already exceeded the limit of equilibrium in the ecosystem. 

Promote Team working

This workshop aims to centre each of us, who, with our skills and with good teamwork, can embrace new creative solutions, approach technology with a different look.

Develop Creative Problem Solving

Building an example of a Solution to tackle the different effects caused by climate change, based on the concepts of circular economy, with a focus on water conservation, land consumption and biodiversity preservation, will be a piece of cake.

Apply Tinkering Methodology

The TINKERING methodology, which is based on creative experimentation to find solutions to a problem, allows STEM subjects to be approached in a practical way, thus becoming the preserve of everyone

Maximising the synergy of climate change research and innovation in Europe.

MAGICA is a Horizon Europe Coordination and Supporting Action financed under the call HORIZON-CL5-2021-D1-01. The project is coordinated by CMCC Foundation and involves 24 different organisations aiming to create a multi-directional dialogue with different relevant social actors (from policy-makers to the younger generation) that will be enhanced through different international conferences, workshops and other innovative formats in order to inform citizens but also to detect the social needs concerning the transition to climate-neutrality and climate science, strengthening a community of practice built on trust and enabling climate action.

Sustainable, zero impact, technologically-advanced

MAGICA Summer School takes place in the H-FARM Campus, a unique place for sharing and collaboration between students, professionals, entrepreneurs and innovation leaders.

The Campus is self-sufficient for 85% of its energy needs, thanks to extensive photovoltaic systems and energy storage and exchange.

Green mobility is encouraged through electric-vehicle charging stations, bikes, e-bikes, caddy cars, and electric scooters.

It is entirely zero-impact, thanks to the re-purposing of previously abandoned structures and the demolition of a former military base.
