The food-tech sector is constantly growing: just in 2015 the global investment was $6.8 billion. Outside of the U.S., a majority of both investment and acquisition activity was driven by China, Germany, India and the U.K.; in Europe the investment in food-tech startups climbed to more than $1 billion. This is what arises from the latest annual report by Rosenheim Advisors, confirming the positive trend also for the Italian market.
This is why we are launching the Food Accelerator in partnership with Cisco Italia dedicated to the food and agricolture industry and, in particular, to these areas: food delivery and e-commerce; logistics, supply chain and sustainability; food safety and traceability; nutrition and organic food; precision agriculture solutions. Among the candidates, the 5 most promising international startups will be selected and will take part in the 4-month program. Every team will receive tutoring and mentoring services, room and board and a first €20K investment. Cisco will also guarantee a constant tech support and will offer its innovative solutions, such as DevNet.
Food Accelerator is the second Industry Accelerator in partnership with Cisco Italia, a new accelerator model that involve 5 leading companies in supporting the startups throughout the entire program.
“The program will accentuate the collaboration with the partner companies, that will organize mentorship and advisory sessions for the startups during the 4 months”, declares Timothy O’Connell, our Accelerator Director. “We will look beyond the traditional acceleration program with venture capital funding, we will support the startups’ growth right from the start, thanks to our Industry Partners’ know-how and network.”
Together with Cisco Italia, we want to guide the startups towards their expansion in order to innovate the production, distribution and/or communication processes of businesses.
